Raw Foods

Raw foods can be blended, dehydrated, or juiced. Although 75 percent of your food should be uncooked in a raw food diet, some in the raw food movement allow for some boiled pasta or a baked potato.1 Raw foods can be hard to eat when you're not used to it. That's why I say, you work with a doctor on your diet.2 Raw foods are rich in enzymes. Enzymes are needed for the digestive system to work.3

Raw foods don?t always have the most variety. Prepared raw foods take a lot of time and energy and aren?t always what you?re looking for.4 Raw foods tend to be fibrous and move through your system efficiently, pushing out undigested food matter. 5 Raw foodists will enjoy colorful presentation of carefully crafted dishes they never imagined could be raw . Raw foodists eat food that is not processed or sprayed with herbicides, pesticides, or other chemicals. They generally don't use (many) recreational or prescription drugs.13 Raw foodists also may also blend and chop up their foods. 14

Cooking food changes the molecular structure of the food. In general, the act of heating destroys enzymes in food.15 Cooking can also inactivate myrosinase , the enzyme that catalyzes glucosinolate hydrolosis into isothiocyanates, which has been shown to substantially decrease the bioavailability of isothiocyanates. 16 Cooked protein becomes a sticky mess that doesn’t digest well at all. Raw plant foods provide all the protein we need, in the right form for easy assimilation. 17

Cooking them will also destroy the cell walls, but as this also destroys a lot of the nutrients and enzymes in the veggies, it kind of defeats the purpose. 18

Organic raw foods may be necessary, unless a person is very clever in working around the worst pesticides. The effects are quite noticeable, which allows adjustments to be made.19 Organic sulfur levels in food are lost when processed, heated or dried. Sulfur is known to help improve skin conditions such as acne.20

Eat more vegan protein. It's much healthier than dairy and meat.23 Eat less of the fatty foods, or the foods that are highly processed. You've probably seen those fancy recipes for nut loaf and nut burgers and such in the raw cookbooks, and they can be SUPER.24 Eating at airports is almost a forgotten behavior. I remind her often of the woman I met just a few months ago to the one who has taken control of her eating and has decided the life she wants is more desirable than the food she used to want.25

Eating a raw diet is the best environmentally for the planet. Fruit trees give the highest yield of any food for the space it takes up.26 Eating cooked food is not truly natural for cats, but eating raw food is! 27Eat with love and appreciation for all things green. 28

Eating raw with your kids just got a whole lot easier!! 29 Eat only unprocessed, uncooked, fresh fruits and vegetables. The fruits and vegetables should not be canned and should have no syrup or sugar added.30 Eating a few bites of raw chicken is not going to harm her child. Now if she made it her regular diet I’d question her sanity.31

Healthy Pet Products are so complete that supplements are not needed. 38 Healthy eating is difficult and often impossible. I employ various methods to combat my profession's caloric surfeit, but many of those methods result in a schizophrenic seesaw of excess and deprivation, the multicourse meal followed by sparse salads after workouts.39

Detoxifying the body, or 'detox' is typically done before starting a raw foods diet. There is some disagreement amongst the medical community as to its effectiveness, but raw foodists believe that the bod must be flushed of its toxins.42 Detoxifying literally means removing poisons from your body. Once these poisons are gone, you will feel energetic, vital, happy and healthy.43

Dogs and cats are not grain eaters, they are meat eaters. Their natural evolutionary diet was almost grain free.46 Dog owners need to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of both. 47
